Thanks, jmk41, for the reply. I tried your method today, using the supplies you mentioned and borrowing a buffer from a friend. I spent about an hour and a half repeating the process, muting the scratch a bit, but not fully eliminating it. Attached is a photo for reference--you can still see scratches.
