Mine is in pretty good shape still but I have a few areas where the black is showing through the gray overlay. It's rediculous that these cars didn't have the various colors be ingrained just like other cars.

Anyway, I haven't tried it yet, but I'm planning on getting some shoe polish / leather polish in the gray that matches my car and touching up the few worn places on my console area instead of trying to take all the color off. You may want to consider this as an alternative, or atleast until you figure out how to convert it over to black.
