Ironically, it happened to me about 40 years ago in my AMX at around 1:00 AM. on a Saturday morning.
Some numbnut stuck a wooden handled knife into a man-hole cover. I saw it at the last moment and swerved, but it went into my left rear tire (just like the Crossfire). It went into the shoulder of the tread, and the blade came out the sidewall.
The AMX came with a "Space Saver" BFG inflatable spare (first Sportscar to use it) but I didn't want to use it since I planned on never selling my X and wanted to keep the spare untouched.
So I called my Dad, and he brought me a floor jack, and another wheel so I could make it home.
If it only happens to me every 40 years or so, I guess I don't have to worry about it anymore.
