Hell, I'm lucky my other car (4runner) has a good reverse gate or I'd be hitting reverse where I wanted my nonexistent 6th gear
Older Volvos have a lift up mechanism under the gear lever and reverse is next to 1st. I had more people rip my gear shift book right off. Lucky for me it was an easy fix. My Alfa was a push down & over too.
