Default Re: What tire repair kit are you carrying in your Xfire?

the air compressor works well. i've used it several times to check pressures and inflate tires on my crossfire and other vehicles. it's powerful enough that in just over a minute it will blow the 20 amp lighter fuse in my olds alero (i don't know off hand what fuse the crossfire uses). you just have to be careful not to run it for too long (as specified in the owner's manual) since it could overheat. but you can fill a completely flat repaired tire in two to three minutes. it can fill tires to pressures in the low-mid 30 lb range (maybe higher but have not verified since i didn't want to chance burning it out). using the compressor along with a tire plug will get you home after most flat tires.

some might wonder why chrysler doesn't just provide the type of tire repair kit we are talking about here instead of the sealant. i think the reason for that is because the sealant, despite it's inferiority to a tire plug, is much less labor intensive and you can keep your hands cleaner since all you touch is the valve cap. even though the instructions for tire repair kits are easy to follow the repair can be difficult or intimidating for some. first, it can be a bit*h to remove things like screws from the tire, provided you can easily find the hole/leak. you don't remove the puncturing object when using the tire fit sealant nor do you need to locate the hole. it can also be difficult to push the plug through the treadwall since you have to force the tools through steel woven belts. i've found that it's best to insert the plug part way then try inflating the tire a bit before inserting the plug fully (it's easier when the tire is pushing back at you).
