I could hear just fine and my wife on the other end said that while it wasn't quite as crystal clear as my bluetooth earpiece (with noise cancellation) that she found it perfectly acceptable. In fact she was surprised to find I was on the freeway. The installer mounted the mike on the top edge of the windshield pillar.
