Default Re: Desperate for help with Clutch

[quote=KelloggKid]I just picked up a used 05 roadster and the clutch is slipping. The repair shop in Scottsdale telling me the following:
  • The xfire has a dual mass flywheel which can't be turned so must be replaced.
  • They can't find any cross reference between Chrysler part numbers and Mercedes so have to go with the more expense Chrysler parts.
As a result they are quoting me $3,600 to replace the clutch.
  • Can someone verify that it is or isn't a dual mass flywheel.
  • Can someone help me find Chrysler to Mercedes part number cross references for the clutch, throwout, etc.
I need to deal with this quickly before the clutch goes out completely so really appreciate any help.[/quoteD
Dual mass it is, go on ebay and you'll find SPEC clutches there. Different performance specs to them. Do not go to Chrysler, you'll only get a MB one at twice the cost, shop around.

Frankly I cannot see it costing more than $1,500 with the clutch for $800, no flywheel required. Lets face it, it's not brain surgery. Can't take more than four hours at most on a hoist. Dealerships use book rates for a blind mechanic with one arm.
