I do have a frot grill mount intake. But when I drove 40 of min to and from to work this morning in the pouring rain it was fine. I'm probably totally off base. Just sounded like your car was choking out because your filter was wet.
I'd dry your car out, disconnect the battery to reset everything and see what happens.
