Thought I would post in the tire section for my first post here.
I replaced my aging Continental Tourers this year with Syron Race 1 tires from Keskin Tuning, made by Nexen and imported from Germany.
I forget what led me to find that brand in the first place, but I believe I was looking up something else and stumbled onto them by accident, and at the time there were almost no reviews on them. Since their price was far below most other tires out there I decided to play "guinea pig" and buy a set. I have to say I was quite surprised.
I bought sets for the front and rear from 2 different sellers on Ebay, both Keskin Tuning shops in California, and the total cost was somewhere around $550, or the cost of 2 "regular" brand tires. I put OEM sized tires on the front and went wider and and shorter tires on the rear (265 30 19, 2% speed variation slower. At 58 mph the speedo reads 60), after consulting
this tool to make sure the tires I wanted would match up to my speedo reading.
There seemed to be only one review on these tires when I bought them, in a competition comparing them along with some of the better crop of UHP tires, and of course they did not come out on top,but then again the professional reviewer also took pains to mention this by no means meant these were bad tires, simply that they did not come out on top when ridden against "the best", especially when they were the least costly of any of the tires in the tests.
Here's the first review I found:
2010 Auto Bild Ultra High Performance Tyre Test | the online tyre guide
Surprisingly it took first place in the hydroplaning (aquaplaning) catagory, 2nd in "noise", and scored better than several other much more expensive tires in several other categories as well
After I bought mine I found this review:
Syron RACE 1 Tire Review
I put the rear tires on at 28,000 miles, and am now at over 44,000. There has been wear, but I still have at least 75-80% tread left after driving 16,000 miles on them. I put the front tires on at 34,000, and they still look practically brand new, with at least 90% tread left. So for "wear" they are a clear winner over my Continentals which wore badly and needed changing by 15000-18000 miles.
For noise they are also a winner. There is some slight noise, as there are on all big and wide UHPs, but these are for the most part unnoticeable, and quieter than the Hankooks on my Pontiac G6 or the Goodyear Eagle's on my Cadillac.
Grip is very good, went and dry. The Continentals had a tendency to run slippery in the wet, and these Syrons plow through water, dry pavement, and dirt and rock roads (I live in the country) with ease. I have absolutely no complaints about their grip or handling.
Would I recommend the Syron Race 1 and/or buy them again? Definite yes
So there is my first post, hope you enjoy it!
