Just a thought .... if you raise and lower the top in cold weather, I would think it would strain the material to a point of making heavier creases, and may actually break the fibers of the material microscopically, eventually weakening the integrity of it. Not to mention the fact that the top may shrink enuff to make latching it almost impossible for less muscular and/or smaller drivers. Just my $.02
