I've had a similar issue for a while now (a long while).. your symptoms sound nearly identical to mine only I don't believe I hear a metallic (click) sound. I'm believing it's the torque converter but since mines out of warranty I'll have to wait for it to become more noticeable before I let someone take a look at it.
