As you describe it, it is the rear differential. The problem is a known issue and has been documented by DC. Have your dealer look-up noise, rear end and it should come up as a known defect. No matter what they tell you, it is not normal. The gears are not lined up correctly. DC has replaced several rear ends because this issue.
