I open my top regularly while driving out of the parking lot at work and have never had any problems. The top mechanism will function up to 9 mph - if you exceed that speed, the top will stop moving and beep at you, requiring you to slow down and push the down button again.

I have the one-touch top module, so I only have to push the button for about 2 seconds, then the module takes over.
