I think you have got it right. It seems like when it has just rained that is when I meet one of the "17-year-old 'sport compact' kids" at a traffic light. They always stop on an angle and rev up their engines just waiting for the light to change. The problem is; I have excellent traction on wet streets and they don't. I hear their tires spin and I pull away...but only just enough to bate them. Next light same scenario, but this time I humble them...really badly. Now is the time where you can hear the evil laugh coming from my car.
