Two things I would like to mention here.

I found when disabling mine that step 4 was not needed.
After step 3 I heard the chime and didn't need to turn the engine off to hear it.

Other thing to note is that if you disconnect your battery this will reset the alarm back to "alarm enabled" as usual.
