Making the engine run richer will not increase power. By fooling the temperature sensor, the ECU will increase spark. This will increase power, but is not ideal for all conditions. The reason they can get away with this is that most manufactures are very conservative in their WOT programming. They are typically too rich and don't run as much spark as you could run.

You are asking for trouble with this mod, though if you get some pinging, you can always unplug it......
