Default Re: Official Tire Review Thread

Update on the Syron Race 1 tires on the rear.

By 17.5k miles there was appreciable wear, and by 18k they were petty much bald. The wear came abruptly after 17k. All in all though for less than $150 shipped the Syrons were pretty good tires.

On the front, the Syron's have lasted 16k now and are holding up pretty good. There is wear, but I think that the difference in size is a factor here, as smaller tires generally across the board seem to hold up better than the larger sizes. Will know more in another 2k miles.

Today I replaced the rear Syron's with a pair of Kuhmo Ecsta 4x's in 255/35/19. These supposedly have a warranty of 40k miles so it will be interesting to see how long they last in real world conditions, and are one of the very few tires in this size with a mileage warranty at all. If they last more than 25-30k they will be well worth the $404 (for the pair) price shipped from Tire Rack, and doubly worth it if the claimed treadwear rating of more than 400 is believable.
