Gas wars were successful back when there were many, many gasoline companies competing. Now there are about 6 in the nation and competition is much less severe. In point of fact, the remaining companies are all connected at the hip.
Hence, no more gas wars.
You are partially right.
However, it is commonly known that these 2 Gas companies have the last say when it comes to how much we will be paying at the pump in Canada. The point of this exercise is not to put them out of business, something these 2 companies are not stupid enough to let happen but more of an arm twist from our end, if you get my illustration.
Locally, in Brockville, On, on a main street corner, there is 1 Esso and 3, yes 3 Petrocan gas stations. All are showing identical gas prices at all times. When gas prices go up, you guessed it, they all go up within the hour or less.
