Let him ride. I never let Bandit ride in my Crossfires and one day he wasn't feeling to well, so to cheer him up I was going to take him for a short ride after I got home from Church. Sadly that afternoon he was too sick to go for a ride, and the next day I had to put him down. He had developed a large tumor on his liver and was way too old for surgery. I still regret not letting him ride in the car, a large towel on the passenger seat would've prevented any damage he could've done.
