It would have been interesting if Mercedes had saved the Crossfire styling for an update of the SLK, instead of marketing it as a Chrysler. It probably would have been more successful with a Mercedes emblem on it.
One could see it that way but;
The "design" of the Crossfire came from the mind of Eric Stoddard, known here as CREATOR, and not from previous Benz calss roadsters. The new SL roadster's, with their behind the front wheel gill vents, may just as likely be a takeoff of the Crossfire than the other way around.
Stoddards influence can be seen in the Hyundai Geneisis coupe and soon may appear behind a FORD badge.
As an MB advocate,I like the new SL's and having a little
bit O' the Crossie in their DNA makes me a fan. The '62 MB roadster styling revisted is exciting. MB or Chrysler.
