I did my headliner and all trim and pillars in black suade.. perhaps you may thave stretched the material a little too tight at the edges and couldn't hold.. try spraying the 3m and when its wet taking a foam roller roll over the glue, it helps it stay on the surface as opposed to just sinking into the foam.. good luck brother
