I tried again later and avoided that and drove it in to be repaired. Seems this is a common problem that started back in 2004 and is also common to some Mercedes models. The complete unit looks the same based on a couple of videos. There is a PDF file if you are a do it yourself person. Easy to find if you search for Crossfire ignition problems on Google.

According to the forums this is common at around 39,000 miles, la little sooner for me at 35000 miles. The post say that if you have trouble turning the key you should possibly have it checked out as you could be stranded as I was. Some totally lock up. So far I have a total of 75 miles since drive out. May be ready for pick up tonight for some crusiN' tomorrow.

Next I have a question on some sort of a tool pointed tip that is mentioned in the owners manual. I do not have it. Should I try and purchase one.

Bob
The tool costs an arm and a leg to buy from the dealer, you can get them on eBay sometimes, still not cheap or you can use a thin wrench and a screwdriver.
I'll add a drawing and a photo of it.
