Re: New photos of Mandrus Wilhelm
Sorry I have been slacking on the update. I did mess with it that weekend but ran into another issue. First the only wheel clear (duplicolor) that I could find locally did not like to stick to the metal, while this was a problem it was not the main one. I do not think there is a clear coat but instead some sort of shiney covering, paint or otherwise. I sanded and polished the lip to super **** levels and could not get it to look quite as shiney. I'm not sure exactly what it is, some kind of film or paint unless they can magically make it shine brighter than I could after buffing the **** out of it. Once I had it as clean as I could get I just did a coat of wax and have been driving it daily since then.
First I am happy with the results after all is said and done, much much better than the rash. There are basically 2 lines where I stopped sanding on the lip and my polished metal meets the shiney covering. Way less noticeable than rash and even I have to take a second to find them. My thought was that my section would accumulate dust differently than the rest but not the case this far. May be the wax but time will tell. Been out in the rain, through washes and has not dulled or discolored.
I would recommend this route as the cheap fix for sure. If the rash is small and right on the edge careful sanding right on the spot should be basically invisible. If you have to do the flat part of the lip going around the entire thing may be the better option. The border that is created on the curved part of the lip is not noticeable as long as you keep it consistent. Will add pics soon.
