If we had great roads, like probably further South or on the West Coast, the car would probably have been a great fit.
I wanted a car that the wife and I could take trips with, and whether my concerns were perceived or actual, they were real to me.
This is no slam on the Crossfire. They're beautiful to look at and beautiful to drive. Just not a good fit for me.
It makes good sense to get the GTO if you intend to do a lot of traveling. The lack of a spare could make you a little uneasy for sure.
After I bought my XFire, I drove it 700 miles to get the car home. About a week later, I took a trip of 800 miles. I really never thought about having tire problems. But then, I haven't had a flat tire in a very long time. Anyhow...good luck.
I had a '65 Goat at one time. That was a great car back in the day. Red w/ black interior, 4-speed with a tri-carb 389. A chick magnet...almost as much as a XFire. :-)
