Just out of curiosity, what would "very basic mods" consist of - tire swap in the stock size, brake pad swap, etc?

For anyone with a totally stock car, I assume there would be nothing that would preclude removing unnecessary stuff before the race. For instance, I would want to pull the passenger seat, get rid of the tire repair stuff from the trunk, drain the windshield washer bottle, and look for other simple, easy to access opportunities for weight reduction. If the car's mission in life was only to race, I would also pull all of the interior trim, ditch the AC, pull the stereo and all speakers, replace the seat with a one-piece racing bucket, etc.
