The battery can cause this as well. On these drive by wire systems the correct voltage must be available at all times - even a slight decrease can create problems. If the battery is weak, the sensor for the accelerator may not be sending the proper signal and so the car isn't getting the fuel it needs as it needs it. It may be time to change the battery if it's old.
