Hi Dax.
The stuff to use is gutter sealant.
It sets quite fast and gives a flexible seal and wont pull apart like normal silicone sink sealant.... its also the perfect stuff for locki g the silver plastic dummy vent trims in situ between the front wheel arches and doors each side.... great for stopping rattles too,
which these cars suffer from big time :-)

I had a thought..the water was running down the left side ..and after some testing sure enough it was coming from behind the trim..so the water tests began...bottles and bottles of water over the roof and over the hatch and my feet...and I sussed it....the water is coming in through the left grommit that takes the cables from the hatch..when I twist it its a little loose..so it does not keep the water out when it rains and the water comes off the roof...I think the trim will have to come off and I can pull the rubber down and put some sealer around the bottom so it fills any gaps...and after that fingers cross a water free X-Fire...just thought I would post this as this is worth checking if that carpet gets wet....
