I removed the cupholder from the console yesterday, and am awaiting the arrival of my new storage bin. I won't miss the cupholder, but I thought that it might be nice to try to repair it and save it for the next owner, or maybe fix it and sell it on eBay to recover the cost of the bin.

The cupholder worked fine for about the first week that I owned the car, until a business card slipped down inside and made it impossible to close. When I removed it yesterday, I was able to get the business card out easily, but discovered that I still could not close the cupholder normally. It will close if I depress the latch that is located at the front of the cupholder, and it opens normally by pressing on the front edge of the cover.

There must be some kind of mechanism inside the box that unlocks the open cupholder, allowing it to close. It is apparently connected to the latch at the front. Does anyone know why my cupholder won't close, but will open normally? Have you managed to repair a cupholder that had the same problem?
