All you have said is correct. Over time, the nipple from the tank gets stuck in the grommet that is mounted in the metal bracket, best thing to do is take a large screwdriver or pry tool and just pop it out. First time I removed mine, the grommet came out of the bracket before the nipple came loose. I used some silicone grease when I reassembled, and it popped right back in with no problem.
