Steve and I have discussed this ad-nauseum...
Some of the fastest cars on this site use a big pulley, DR's, tune, and a single 3" intake.
mrphotoman, Mimi, grip grip, etc...
The dual makes great numbers, and looks better, and has better immediate throttle response. But the proof is in the drag times (whether published or not). They're really too close to call. That said, I'm going with a dual simply for the balanced look and extra 5 horses under the curve. Since the rest of my motor is staying pretty mild, I'm making the intake wild.
With a big filter, the single is within ~100 CFM of the dual. IMO the dual only makes up for the slight pinch in the radiator pass-through on the passenger intake.
The single is simpler, and with the same air flowing over less metal, I'd dare say the IAT's are ever-so-slightly less than the dual. More metal with a given amount of air = more heat retention.
For an N/A, there's no way I'd do a dual unless it was done for cheap (like max did). For the SRT, do whatever floats your boat. There are plenty of factors to equalize times (traction, driver mod, sh!tty TCU tune (sorry Steve)).
