When an oil label says MB 229.3 /229.5 Approval that means the oil manufacturer has actually submitted the specific product to MB & they have tested it. If the label just says meets or exceeds some standard.....that's the oil manufacturer's claim......the product was not submitted to the vehicle manufacturer for testing.

So, M1 0W-40 can be had at most Walmarts now for about $6.50/qt. When I picked up 11 free qts of Pennzoil Ultra Euro 5w40 at a Chrysler dealership (class action settlement freebie)....they said the regular charge from the parts department was $10/qt. Anyone ever find this particular Pennzoil from a local retailer at a price competitive with Walmart's regular M1 0w40 price?
