I think she meant 2005 and newer. The 2004's used paper filters as the standard filter and as such was the filter to be used. They had less mileage specified for them.

I have two paper filters to be tossed out as I will not use them.

I would not use any oil that was not the specified oil, if they find out the warranty will be void.
