I was never a fan of only removing a negative cable. I take the neg off first (swinging a wrench on the positive when the neg is connected is dangerous, you might accidentially drop/swing it too far to ground the terminal and it may explode). So I take the neg off then take the pos off whenever doing normally "hot" wiring on my vehicles. The reason I take the pos off second is if there is any chance of a wrench/bracket/tool dropping where the batteyr negative post is (or sometimes the neg cable just pops back over to the terminal as the cable has some spring tension) I like to be absolutely sure there will be no short. Shorts at vehicle batteries are very dangerous, I have seen the results of tools that short the system and seen where a couple of batteries actually exploded. Very bad mojo!
