You used a stethoscope while running and the noise was in the case? The SC was not running at idle and I do not know when it would kick in with no load. Anyway once the SC kicks in the bearing stops turning.
The noise would be transmitted into the housing though. I would expect it is the pulley bearing, the bearing turns on the bearing until the SC kicks in as I said.
With the belt removed there are two things you can turn, the pulley and the SC by turning the black magnetic clutch.
