These transmissions are adaptive, they learn your driving habits and shift where you have been wanting it to shift lately, if you are a conservative driver they shift sooner giving you better gas mileage, if you are aggressive they hold the gear longer for that extra bit of power.

If it is as drastic as you make it sound then something isn't right, I would just drive it normally and see if it corrects itself. If not take it in to get checked again.
