Like 180 mentioned, the venturi creates the vacuum/suction. Tuna, are you maybe suggesting that cutting the venturi end of the tube off, so that it is flush to the inside, would 1.) Draw less crankcase vapor into the TB and still be functional, and 2.) Be less obstructive to the air flow. ?? If both of those are true, then this could be our next FREE mod., HaHa. 
I had small leaks around the Y connector so I tapped an NPT fitting on there. So, I've been running around without that little tube sticking up through there. Just wanted to know the function of the tube.
