Do you have cats in your neighborhood? I've noticed the smell of cat urine is very similar to transmission fluid. Plus if you left your window open, you may have invited other felines to leave their "signature" as well. Or it could be a non-terminal repeating phantasm, or a Class Five full roaming vapor.
