$4K is actually quite low. I have $600 in my steering wheel alone (MSRP 1,200 Euro). Interior enhancements and other aesthetics won't affect the safety of the vehicle and that's their main concern. Receipts of purchases help your case. But if you come right out and tell them "Yes, I'm adding a $4,000 part that gives a major bump in power", that will certainly make them wonder. Your results may vary.
When in doubt, be honest. Or you can roll the dice, say nothing, and hope an SUV doesn't pull out in front of you. Your call.
