It was the fan. The trip to Huntsville turned into a trip to Nashville as well. Before I left I loaded the car on a trailer and took it to my nearest Chrysler Xfire certified dealer, who had it sorted out by the time I got home on Thursday. With the new fan and control module (?) fitted the air is cold as ever.

Go figure.
