Other members have tried everything from what you are proposing all the way through putting stacked quarters or something similar on the throttle switch to make it see WOT faster, to the best of my knowledge, none but the SB actually work.

It does not add power, but I would HIGHLY suggest to anyone looking to get the most from their cars. I have the selectable one and have had others drive the car and I will go from off, to first setting, and they are shocked, then the second setting (what I normally drive with) and they are even more surprised, just a lot better throttle response...
