Unhappy Camshaft Sensor

My 05 Coupe w/six speed has a problem. Twice it has cut off - immediate shut down as if the key had been switched off. Once I was idling in traffic, the second time I was turning into my drive. Both times the car had cranked up normally and was driven about 5 miles before the problem occurred. When motor shut off, it would crank normally but not start. No misfires or anything, just the engine spinning over. After about 45 minutes, car would start normally.

Engine code came up with camshaft sensor issue. The camshaft sensor has no moving parts, so I am puzzled as to how it apparently fails and then works again. How common a problem is this? Has anyone else used aftermarket sensors or have you just used Chrysler bits for repairs.

First mechanical issue I've had with this thing in six years of ownership - but haven't driven it that much as it has about 40K on it.
