the stripes/decals are made of an adhesive vinyl. oracal & avery materials are usually the choice of any graphic company. with wax protection they should last 5 years without any wear. if you keep your car polished and protected with wax... the surface beneath should not show any change once decals are removed. you would have to use a heat gun/blow dryer to remove the stripes/decals... the self backing adhesive works great. a bit of goo gone will remove any remaining adhesive once removed. then polish area... and it should be like new.
