I have not posted on here for a long while but I figured I would share my little story. In the past year and a half I bought a new house with a longer commute and a new daily driver car in a '92 Mazda Miata. With the new situation, the "Chuck" the SRT6 does not get driven as much. I have put 21K miles on it in the five years i have owned it but only 1500 in the last year. A couple weeks ago my wife and I head off to a car show and decided to take Chuck. Filled up with gas and hit the freeway. I got to about 35/40 on the on ramp, then floored it and it launches as normal for about a second or two then nothing! We got up to about 70 then no throttle response at all. No check engine light. So we ended up coasting almost to the next offramp. It would just idle and not rev at all even in park. Turned off the car and turned back on and it seemed fine but I did not floor it. Drove to a safe spot to park and I plugged in my OBD2 reader. Got a P0123 Throttle position high voltage code. Wife was not happy about the situation so we drove home and took her car to the car show.
Later that day I searched P0123 code on here and found some information and possible solutions in wiring connectors, throttle pedal and/or TPS on the throttle body. Each solution being more expensive than the last so I was not too happy. So yesterday I had an errand to run and decided to take Chuck. I cleared the P0123 code and performed the throttle reset procedure. Drove a few miles to get everything up to temps and floored it. Awe crap! Same problem with no throttle response. No CEL but got the P0123 pending code again. Turned off ignition and restarted and the throttle was back. Headed off down the freeway for about 20 miles. Never flooring it but the reader was still coming back as P0123. About 10 miles into the return trip and the reader shows no code! Run it again and no code. I am still about 10 miles from home so i don't want to floor it but I am excited and tempted. Get to my offramp lane and punch it. 60 to 100 just like that! Just like old times. I floored it 5-6 times more between the freeway and home and all seems OK. No codes or CEL.
I know a lot of you guys are way more experienced in the workings of these cars than I am. Any thoughts or ideas on my car that appears to have fixed itself? I am definitely going to drive it more now!
