Default Re: Need some help on the race car

Guys, we're all failing to see the logic.

This thread was asking about how to reduce weight by destr--- modifying the engine bay and removing anything/everything not crucial to the simple task of making Corvette owners weep.

Now, just because he's asking about how to reduce weight doesn't mean he's asking about ALL weight -- just the weight under the hood (at least in this thread). Please ignore the fact that he has already gutted the entire interior (which is not under the hood) to save weight, but this is not the same weight as what he's asking about now, even though all that weight is supported by the same contact patches.
  • To clarify, the 3-4 pounds of plastic around the steering wheel are crucial and unnecessary, and must be shed in the interest of lapping Corvettes. He is utilizing lightweight racing seats, but the weight of the meat sitting there and piloting the car has no effect. His degree says so. And he will be MAD if you dare ask him his weight again. Got it? Good.
Also be advised that rotational mass has little effect on racing (for him at least), so using heavy cast replica wheels is perfectly fine, we can sod off with our suggestions. Low-pressure cast wheels are stronger and more worry-free than forged wheels. Someone should tell MetalMilitia (working at BBS) to scrap research on their new proprietary alloy with market-leading lightness and strength, designed specifically for racing. With this breaking news, track runners everywhere are ditching their Reeboks for hiking boots, because the penalty of extra weight is offset by the competitive advantage of ankle support. Lolo Jones, you're doing it wrong.

Furthermore, he is so convinced of his intelligence that he is willing to give me -- a lowly recreational racer -- Paul Tracy's personal number so I can call him and ask him about how his heft didn't affect performance in a racing series where all cars are regulated to be within ounces of each other. Paul has my utmost respect and all, but I'm sure he wouldn't appreciate someone giving out his personal information just to prove a point. If he's into that, I'm getting my ******* signed. In Sharpie.

Yes, I am having fun with this now. Yes, my wife is more comfortable with a question about her weight than the OP is. Yes, I genuinely wish him the best in racing and I hope to see him make a name for our Crossfires in 2013.

Regards,
