Picked up my XF with 42k on the clock and had this issue right away. Used the Johnson pump to rectify.

how it surges. You might notice that when the car surges ahead, the s/c is disengaged. When the unit engages, the car kind of lurches backward. Seems consistent with the 30 or so horsepower gained in the clutch disengagement. Pretty tricky nonetheless.
