Remove the belt and spin the tensioner pulley by hand, forcefully, while its attached to the assembly. You may notice the pulley does not spin as freely and/or a slight hint of "nails on a chalkboard" sound indicating a seizing bearing.
There was no noise before so it makes sense to me the pulley bearing wouldn't go out all of a sudden, but with a new belt and different tension, maybe the tensioner spring is jumping around causing noise.
What do you think?
If your new belt is OEM size, I don't think the mm size reduction of the SC pulley would effect the tensioner assembly enough under normal load. Most upgrade to the PSK to minimize belt slip under WOT and because the OEM idler pulley bearing is not rated for the increased speeds our SC/Crank pulley upgrades spin them.
BTW, the Needswings belt is a direct factory replacement right? So it should be causing more tension if anything. Accept now there is a smaller SC pulley so maybe not enough tension
No, the belt that comes with the PSK is not a direct factory replacement. We are changing pulleys and belt travel path. The belt is larger but offers more wrap (tension) because of the new larger pulleys and adjustments to belt travel.
