I have one of those fake cheese traps, one just disappeared and I have two new ones and the poison. They have not touched the poison.
The trap was set off again last night, score to date Dave 1 Mice 10.
I had a small rat under my deck the other year, so I fed him from the unset rat trap for three days, then I set it, caught the confident little sucker first try.
I had mice in the house last summer, I caught a couple, my cat got one and then they decided the area was not safe so they went back to the roof.
I'm wondering if I am dealing with a rat or even a chipmunk. No place for a squirrel to get in. Dragging off the trap twice takes some strength. We fed the chipmunks in the summer, so my wife will be upset if I nail one now.

You may have something there. I have only once to had one of the snap traps carried off like you describe. The design is to break the neck/spine of the little buggers. If the angle is off too much it catches them somewhere else resulting in a messy catch but still localized. Like I said they are designed to kill immediately. I can remember only once it was carried into the depths of the home we rented at the time. That was my fault for putting it where the mouse scaled over the trap (found the path after this incident) and corrected placement. Oh, here they travel in a minimum of pairs. If you do not catch either momma or poppa, then you'll have little ones to deal with and that skewers the numbers some. So, you may have something other than mice, or maybe a combination?
