My money says that one of the components on the valve plate or on the electrical plate has gone on the blink.
If the dealer is paying they will change out the part that fails, if you are paying they will probably change both plates just to make more money.

The connector just leaks, I do not think it fails too often. Probably a speed sensor or a solenoid has failed.

I have a transmission repair manual that states that if its in second gear limp mode its an electrical fault and if in third gear its a hydraulic fault, I read that the other day and it was the first time I had heard of that.
