My original dome light would not function reliably, the plastics cracked around the areas where the bulbs seat.

Bought another and have still not installed it, but noticed similar cracks around the area the bulbs sit.

My headliner is still needing to be recovered (again).. so I was thinking about not cutting out for the factory dome light and installing some LEDs in alternate locations on the headliner.

Has anyone tried something like this?
