I do not know about the smoke---I do know that the car has a new one---I was told by the dealer and have read that the ECM will STOP all communications---DEAD---It will not take a new program because it will not communicate at all. It is the back-up to the security system--You blow it; you will need to tow it.

This is why so I have been told when the SKREEM goes out it does the 3 and out---This is a built in signal to operator---or should be. You have to disconnect the battery to get a fresh 3 attempts.

So with a total death, there could very well have had a little smoke "Mission Impossible" style.

Before taking to the dealer I did several checks and test. The first ECM had a different sticker and was from Germany---The one in the car now is from Spain.
